OF DEANERY SYNOD REPRESENTATIVES Thursday May 1st 2008
St. Mary, St. Giles & All Saints, Canwell
The meeting was preceded by an Ascension Day Communion Service,
with a most informative and entertaining sermon delivered by the
Rev. Baker.
Business Agenda
The Deanery Synod meeting opened at 8.50 pm by Rural Dean, Ian Murray,
who welcomed all newly elected members
1st Item On the agenda was to elect
officers: Persons proposed – seconded and elected on the night
were: -
Secretary Karen Cory, Lay Chair Charles Grant, Treasurer Martin
Airey
2nd Item With elected officers in the chair, minutes of the previous
meeting held on 20th February were read and approved with one exception
that the date of the meeting was incorrect. This was corrected and
the minutes were passed.
3rd Item The minutes of the Pastoral Standing Committee held on
the 14th April were approved and have been forwarded.
It was then mentioned that the Lambeth Conference to be held 16th
July – 4th August 2008 requires your prayers and support.
There followed a general discussion of activities at churches and
venues in our area within the next three months. With many persons
talking at the same time a full list of future local church activities
were difficult to co-ordinate.
1. Hopwas Pentecostal weekend 10th – 11th May
2. Elford a series of Jazz weekends the first Thursday in June/July/August
3. Fazeley a quiz night. Date unconfirmedThen followed a general
conversation of future church (plate donations). One member
who had recently returned from a conference in Telford informed
the group (non verbatim) that it had been suggested that £10
notes would be more acceptable on collection plates that £1
coins in future and parishioners should be informed of same.
The next meeting of Deanery Synod is 15th September at Glascote.
As there was no further business the chair Rural Dean Murray thanked
all for attending and closed the meeting with prayer at 9.30 pm.
