A Word from Hopwas:

“The disciples were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke of the great things God had done.” Acts Ch.2 v 4&11

I write this anticipating my 70th birthday in a few days time. I do so with a great inner excitement and a little anxiety of what that day will bring, (knowing my family).
I am reminded of the anxiety of the disciples waiting after the Ascension of Jesus and the promise that they would soon receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. They had no idea of what to expect and I’m sure they too were excited and apprehensive of what that day would bring.
When it happened they were all filled with a great joy and overwhelming presence of God with them, and the joy of this was expressed in an outburst of praise and proclaiming of the greatness and wonder of God.
Four hundred years before, the prophet Joel had foreseen this great happening that God would perform among His people. And on that first day of Pentecost, ten days after Christ Jesus’ Ascension and return to His
Father in Glory, what God had said and Jesus had promised happened.
What a day! The whole of Jerusalem was caught up in the excitement caused by those 120 or so disciples. It was the beginning of a new world where the Gospel of Jesus Christ would change the hearts and lives of millions. It came with the fire of God’s great love inflaming their hearts and the wind of God’s breath giving life and new birth to their whole being.
Thousands of men and women heard for the first time the Gospel preached by St. Peter that day, “This Jesus of Nazareth whom you Crucified is the Christ the Messiah, He died for our sins, that we might be forgiven, saved, and born again into new and Eternal life. Everyone who repents of their sins and believes in Jesus Christ will have God’s forgiveness and new life as the children and people of God.”
Two thousand years later the Christian Church preaches that same Gospel and still today, as through the centuries, all who hear it and believe will be saved and have new life, Eternal Life in Jesus, through whom all this has been made possible.
If you want to have the fire of God’s love within you; if you want to have a new start and a new life, then come to Christ, kneel before His cross and believe, ask God’s forgiveness, and let the Holy Spirit fill you with the love, life and power of God himself in your life today.
In doing this you will have the joy of knowing that, “Nothing, on earth, in heaven or in hell will be able to separate you from the Love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. Amen.” (Rom.Ch.8v38&39)
God bless you all with the gift of the Holy Spirit and the love, joy and peace He brings. Amen
