St Editha's Story - South Windows

This window represents Editha, whose nunnery was in Tamworth, as a Lady Abbess with a crozier in her hand and her nuns around her beholding a vision of the Virgin Mary (Patroness of the Benedictine order to which the nunnery belonged). The left panel shows Editha, sister of Athelstan(e) the two centre panels depict her nuns and the right panel, the Virgin Mary. At the top of the window is a panel with the tower of St. Editha’s nunnery. At the foot the nuns, having no arms, we have the heraldic shields of Willington, Guy (Earl of Warwick), Bracebridge and Waldyve, all of whom claim descent from Athelstan(e).
