St George's Chapel - North Windows

This well designed four light window, filled with richly coloured glass has, as its principal theme, the devotion of a daughter to her mother. This is represented by the two central figures of Ruth and Naomi flanked on either side by David and Samuel. The text “Intreat me not to leave thee,” appears across a scroll across the base of the centre lights and strikes the keynote of the whole window.

The figures of Ruth and Naomi were specially designed for the window by Mr. H. Dearle. The open foliage treatment makes an excellent background to the figure work and the colour scheme is particularly beautiful.

In the tracery opening at the top of the window are shown corn and roses. Corn refers to Ruth’s gleaning and roses are the symbol of love.

This window was executed by Messrs. Morris & Co. The dedication inscription reads: “To the Glory of God and in faithful remembrance of Emma Pipe Cooke. A good, loving mother. This window was erected by Annie Cooke, her daughter, A.D. 1925.”
